Viking Track & Field Ready for Drake Relays and Simpson Invite

   

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana outdoor track & field team continues action this weekend at the Drake Relays and Simpson Invite Thursday through Saturday. The two teams will split with half the squad heading to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete at the Drake Relays while the other half will see action in Indianola, Iowa, at the Simpson Invite. 

So far this season, Augustana has recorded 10 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks. The women have recorded five individuals with qualifying marks while the men have collected three. 

There are two individuals with multiple provisional marks, Patty Jo English holds qualifying marks in the 1,500m with the 18th fastest time in all of division II with a time of 4:27.43. English also holds an additional mark in the 5,000m run with the 23rd fastest time in the nation with a time of 16:42.02. Kylee Sallee is the second individual with two provisional marks, Sallee holds marks in the long jump and heptathlon. Her long jump distance of 19'3.25" grants her the 32nd spot in division II while her heptathlon score of 4,568 points lands her at 28th in the nation.

For the men, Augustana leads the NSIC in the 5,000m. Ryan Hartman is the conference leader in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:15.14 while Matt Steiger holds the second fastest time in the NSIC with a time of 14:19.38. Hartman holds the second fastest time in program history while Steiger claims the fifth. 

Last season at the Drake Relay, the Vikings claimed three relay titles with wins in the women's 4x800m as well as the men's and women's distance medley relay titles. Of the 10 individuals who claimed titles at least year's relays, six will return to this year's track. 

The women's 4x800 performance broke the Augustana school record with a time of 8:57.75. Of the DMR performances, the men and women both secured the third place spot in the program record books.

On the women's side, Augustana is tied for No. 14 with 14 total Drake Relay titles.
