Justin Bieber, Shakira, Lady A And Tate McRae: 5 Important Moves On This Week’s Hot 100

As more and more Christmas songs disappear from the Hot 100, space opens up, and there is room for new tunes to arrive closer to the bottom of the ranking (for the most part) and for others to rise, either hitting previously-seen heights, or perhaps making it to new peaks. There’s a lot of movement on this week’s chart, which is a bit surprising during what is typically the quietest period of the year in the music world.

Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.

No. 6 - Justin Bieber - “Anyone”

Just a few weeks after he debuted his last song on the Hot 100, Justin Bieber is back with another hit, as he seems to have no trouble turning any new song into a smash. The Canadian pop star’s latest release “Anyone” kicks off its time on the all-encompassing tally at No. 6, making it his twenty-second top 10 success.

“Anyone” will likely be featured on Bieber’s forthcoming next album, along with “Holy” with Chance The Rapper, which is present at No. 4 on this week’s Hot 100, giving him control over two of the top 10 spots.

No. 33 - Lady A - “Champagne Night”

Lady A, formerly known as Lady Antebellum, earn their first top 40 hit on the Hot 100 under their new moniker with “Champagne Night,” which was born out of the band’s appearance on the TV show Songland. The cut has been growing steadily, as it was first released last April, and only now has it officially become a major win on the tally.

No. 40 - Tate Mcrae - “You Broke Me First”

Seventeen-year-old Tate McRae has been making waves for months now with her single “You Broke Me First,” which was also originally released in April of 2020. The track has already reached the top 10 on many songs tallies all around the world, including in the U.K. and Canada, but it seems to really just be getting started here in the States.

“You Broke Me First” enters the top 40 for the first time this frame, giving the rising talent her first hit in America.

No. 87 - Black Eyed Peas - “Girl Like Me (ft. Shakira)”

The Black Eyed Peas returned this past summer with their Latin-influenced album Translation, which has now spun off a handful of singles that have reached the Hot 100. Following in the footsteps of previous releases "Ritmo (Bad Boys for Life)" with J Balvin and “Mamacita” with Ozuna and J Rey Soul, new cut “Girl Like Me” with Shakira finally makes it to the chart after weeks of sitting on the Bubbling Under Hot 100.

No. 100 - Glass Animals - “Heat Waves”

English psych-pop outfit Glass Animals earned their first top 10 album on the Billboard 200 last year when Dreamland settled at No. 7, and now they’ve collected another major win. The band’s latest single “Heat Waves,” taken from that set, arrives in last place on this week’s Hot 100, giving the act their first-ever placement on the list.
