Avril Ramona Lavigne (born September 27, 1984) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She is considered a key musician in the development of pop-punk music, as she paved the way for female-driven, punk-influenced pop music in the early 2000s. Her accolades include eight Grammy Award nominations, among others.
At age 15, she was appearing on stage with Shania Twain; At the age of 16, she signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records and earned $2 million. In 2002, when she was almost 17 years old, Lavigne entered the music market with the album Let Go. Since her breakthrough album, she has sold more than 40 million albums and more than 50 million singles worldwide. She is known as the "pop punk queen".
In addition to her recording work, Lavigne also pursued an acting career with several roles in action films, and she also worked as a fashion and perfume designer.
Lavigne was in a romantic relationship with guitarist Jesse Colburn, in his band. She considers him her first boyfriend in her life. After the breakup, Colburn left the band. In early 2004, Lavigne began dating fellow Canadian singer Deryck Whibley, frontman of the rock band Sum 41.
