Marvel fans have yet another term of endearment for Elizabeth Olsen which has gotten the actress conflicted about it all!
Elizabeth Olsen’s relationship with her fans from the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes a long way, with fans showering her with love even when her onscreen character Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch took a Darkhold-influenced turn for the worse. In fact, it has gone so long that Marvel fans have even given her a term of endearment as a nickname: “Mother.”
Lately, netizens have been going on and on calling Olsen their “mother”; to the point where even the actress heard of the trend. But instead of being happy about it, the WandaVision star is more conflicted about what to make of the new nickname; mostly because she doesn’t understand the reason why she got it in the first place!
Elizabeth Olsen Isn’t Sure What To Make Of Fans Calling Her ‘Mother’
While fans are swooning over Elizabeth Olsen labeling her as “Mother,” the actress herself isn’t sure of what to make of this term of endearment. Talking to Lionsgate TV during the premiere of her HBO Max drama series Love and Death, she explained the same, saying:
“I’m conflicted. I’ve heard that it’s a term of endearment. It makes me feel like the internet is filled with 12-year-olds. I’m not trying to offend people, but I don’t get it. And I’m not that old!”
During the same event, Entertainment Tonight got the chance to ask her about the same as well. This time, the Avengers: Endgame star admitted that she actually doesn’t quite get what the term means, considering how she largely prefers to stay away from social media, saying:
“I think it’s really odd! I really don’t get it,” admitted Olsen. “My friends have tried to explain to me that it’s, like, a good thing? I don’t know.”
Continuing, she clarified that she held no conflict against actual ‘mothers’ and even found them “great,” but just couldn’t help but feel “old” every time she heard someone entitling her with that nickname.
“Like, mothers are great, I guess, but I don’t know. It makes me feel old. Because I think the people that are saying it must be young? Like, I’m not sure how I feel about it.”
Well, Elizabeth Olsen may not understand why fans have been terming her with that word of endearment, but Gen Z fans don’t seem to want to stop calling her that anytime soon regardless of how conflicted she might be about it all!
Reasons Why The Internet Is Labeling Elizabeth Olsen As ‘Mother’
Typically, the recently originated term ‘mother’ is from the L.G.B.T.Q. ballroom community and it is basically used to express one’s love, appreciation, and respect for the person who is being labeled with the term.
Lately, the word has just gained a lot of momentum among Gen Z fans, and thus, found its way to Elizabeth Olsen as well.
Then there’s the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness actress’ totally straightforward and outspoken personality, which simply doesn’t allow her to sit quiet and watch stuff happen without calling people out on it.
If yet another reason is required to justify netizens’ love for endearing her with the term, then there are all the times she has done a remarkable job at playing a mommy for the screens (like in Doctor Strange 2 and WandaVision), which doesn’t leave any space for further explanations.
All in all, Elizabeth Olsen is one of the most loved, commended, and respected women in the entertainment industry, and fans have just been using the term ‘mother’ to keep reminding her of the spectacular ‘mother’ that she is!
