TULSA, Okla. – The second-seeded Drake Bulldogs captured their fourth Summit League men’s title for the fourth time in the last five championships Saturday afternoon after they defeated top-seeded and No. 61 ranked Denver in a 4-1 match at the Bernis Duke Tennis Center.
Drake took a 1-0 advantage after picking up two wins in the doubles action. After Denver’s duo of Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and Conner Olsen defeated Drake’s Jeremy Schifris and Evan Fragistas, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot, the Bulldogs won on courts one and two. Matija Matic and Reid Jarvis beat DU’s Peter Sallay and Anish Sriniketh, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot and the duo of Oliver Johansson and Olle Sonesson Lidholt clinched doubles at the No. 2 spot with a 6-4 final against Denver’s Daniel Sancho Arbizu and Raffaello Papajcik.
In singles action, Drake’s Reid Jarvis gave the Bulldogs their second point with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Sriniketh at the No. 6 position. Herrero Cuesta earned the Pioneers a point at the No. 2 spot with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Drake’s Matija Matic.
Johansson of Drake made it 3-1 thanks to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Conner Olsen. Sonesson Lidholt sealed and clinched the match with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win against Denver’s Charlie Miller.
