Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger Put Former Sherman Oaks Mansion on the Market

Perhaps home isn't always where the heart is, considering Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are trying to offload their Sherman Oaks, California, mansion, which they snapped up for $5.4 million just prior to announcing their split back in the fall of 2015.

The sprawling, 10,200-square-foot home is currently on the market for $7.999 million, though comparisons to marketing materials from 2015 show that little has been upgraded or changed since the musical pair moved in, except for one very important detail: a spacious third-floor attic that's been converted into an entertainment complex with vaulted ceilings, multiple skylights, a stone fireplace, and a large wet bar. Elsewhere in the home, most of the 1980s chateau-inspired mansion remains largely untouched, with vine-encrusted walls and imposing wrought iron gates still standing guard outside the property. (They are rockers after all.)

Once inside the double doors, the house opens onto a grand foyer with glossy dark wood floors and two curved staircases leading up and away to the second floor. A double-height living room with an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows just opposite the foyer allows for plenty of natural light, and a carved stone fireplace helps anchor the space. Two opulent chandeliers hang from the ceiling, adding to the grandeur of the home. A formal dining room sits just adjacent to the living room, linked by a bar area, and beyond that is a partly paneled office and a small gym/yoga studio with an entire wall of mirrors. The ground floor also features the kitchen, which is open to an eat-in space and a more informal family room area, where a TV is nestled into a built-in media cabinet with plenty of couches for lounging.

Other rooms on the ground floor include a small bedroom with a private bathroom and a small laundry room with a breezeway connecting the house to a semidetached three-car garage. The second floor holds the rest of the mansion’s six bedrooms, with four en-suite guest and family bedrooms located in one wing of the second floor and a spacious master suite occupying the other. The master bedroom features an elegant fireplace and four sets of French doors spaced across three walls, each leading out onto Juliet balconies. The master suite also boasts a fitted, 20-foot-long walk-in closet and a spa-style bathroom with a standalone deep-soaking tub and a glass-enclosed steam shower. In addition to the third-floor converted-attic entertainment complex, the home also has a professional-quality home theater located above the garage with its own separate lounge, a bathroom and candy/refreshment bar complete with ice cream maker and beverage cooler. Out back, a flagstone-paved loggia just outside the kitchen and family room provides some quality outdoor living space, including a fire pit and seating area on one end and an outdoor kitchen and grilling area on the other end. Beyond that lies a saltwater swimming pool and spa, a sports court, and a grand expanse of green lawn.
